Eligibility and Care Services

Anyone living in Arizona can ask to be assessed to learn if they qualify for SED or SMI benefits.

A mental illness is a condition that can affect how a person thinks, feels, or acts.

Such conditions may affect someone’s ability to take care of themselves, stay safe, or manage their life. Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) and Serious Mental Illness (SMI) are terms used in Arizona for people who have certain mental health diagnoses, and have difficulty managing their life because of that diagnosis.

People designated SED or SMI may be able to get mental health services such as therapy, medicine, and support from a team that can help them stay safe and feel better.
